Free Wi-Fi is now available for customers at Sydney’s Central Railway Station.  After accepting the Terms and Conditions users will receive 100MB or six hours of time, whichever comes first.  The McLaren solution includes a Nomadix gateway and McLaren Fluide web portal controlling bandwidth management, time zones and all aspects of the user’s internet experience.

Sydney, Tuesday 9 July 2013 – Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian today announced that intercity and regional customers will for the first time have free internet coverage at Central Station – one of the many benefits being offered by new operator NSW TrainLink.

Ms Berejiklian said Wi-Fi hot spots will be switched on later this week on the Grand Concourse and regional platforms (1-15), allowing more than 180,000 customers travelling through Central Station each day to stay connected.

“Free internet access is a real value-add for our customers and just one of the many initiatives being rolled out as part of the Fixing the Trains improvements we are implementing across rail,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“We are determined to provide services tailored to the specific needs of our customers and this free Wi-Fi means intercity and regional customers can keep in touch with friends, family or work.

“It will also give them better access to the NSW Government’s train apps, providing real-time information about train services.

“We are making real improvements for public transport users – there is still a lot of work ahead but we are committed to providing the modern transport service our customers deserve.”

The Wi-Fi hotspot service is free for all customers with a portable Wi-Fi enabled device (such as a mobile phone, tablet or laptop). Browsing sessions are limited to 30 minutes and there is a data download limit of 60MB.

The service is accessible by logging on at the dedicated hotspots and accepting the terms and conditions.

Train customers already have uninterrupted mobile phone and internet coverage inside train tunnels on the City Circle Line, after a major network infrastructure upgrade earlier this year.

Last year the NSW Government also switched on mobile phone reception for the North Shore and Western Lines between Central Station and Chatswood. This rollout is continuing on the Eastern Suburbs Line, with works underway to install 18 kilometres of cable between Erskineville and Bondi Junction.
